Elie Kligman, a 2021 Washington Nationals Draft Pick from Las Vegas, Nevada, made international news in 2021 as a college and professional prospect who chose to honor and keep the Jewish sabbath and holidays by not playing baseball while remaining undeterred in pursuing his college and professional baseball aspirations. In July, history was made when Elie was drafted by the Washington Nationals in the 20th round. Elie decided to forego the professional opportunity, choosing instead to enroll at Wake Forest University to play Division I baseball in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Elie is working to be the first ever sabbath observant religious Jewish baseball player in NCAA Division I history this spring.
